Book Review: AWS for Solutions Architects, Second Edition

This hefty but informative book, “ AWS for Solutions Architects, Second Edition ,” by Saurabh Shrivastava, Neelanjali Srivastav, Alberto Artasanchez, and Imtiaz Sayed, was a valuable companion on my AWS recertification journey.

The book starts with a strong foundation in cloud computing concepts and then dives specifically into AWS and its services. I particularly liked the chapter on the AWS Well-Architected Framework, which provided excellent guidance for building secure and scalable cloud solutions. Additionally, the book thoughtfully included a section on cloud migration, a crucial aspect for businesses transitioning to AWS.

The book offers deep dives into various areas. Dedicated chapters tackle the complexities of AWS networking and storage services, while another comprehensive section explores compute services like EC2. It also surprised me with its detailed breakdown of database services, opening my eyes to the many options available before opting for a managed solution.

Security is a major focus, and the book doesn’t disappoint. The dedicated security chapter goes above and beyond, outlining best practices for implementing robust security measures within your organization.

The book ventures into exciting new territories like CloudOps, big data, data warehouses, data queries, machine learning, IoT, and even blockchain technology. For those interested in modern deployment strategies, the book dedicates chapters to microservices and managing containerized workloads within AWS.
